Who is Kay Luv?
The first Laotian Politician Candidate in New Zealand history.
I am a Laotian mum who arrived in NZ as a baby and raised in West Auckland. Growing up in diverse homes and working across Asia and NZ shaped my commitment to bold, inclusive leadership and meaningful change.
I represent diversity when I had the privilege of being raised by many cultures that took me into their Pacific Island, Asian and European homes. My immediate family and extended family are also of Lao, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Pakistan descent. I have also lived and worked in India, Taiwan, and Thailand.
With over 20 years in the Immigration sector, I may be new to Council, but not new to Leadership, Business, or Governance.
I have served as a Branch Technical Advisor for the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and as New Zealand’s International Criminal Fraud Representative for the NZ Commerce and Trade Office.
I have trained and provided immigration policy advice to Immigration Officers, Lawyers, Government Officials, Immigration Advisers, Employers and Large Industry Groups in New Zealand and overseas. I have spent my life representing clients against injustices and solving complex immigration cases and legislation.
I have many years of experience working in Immigration New Zealand branches in India, Taiwan, Auckland, Wellington, and Queenstown as a Senior Government Official and working together with other Embassies around the world in stopping criminal activity at international borders.
I own Luv Immigration and serve on NZ tennis boards and speak English, Lao, Thai, and Mandarin and hold qualifications in Political Science, Education, Business, and Teaching.
I stand for affordable living, safer and cleaner neighborhoods, better transport, and healthcare — and leadership that reflects our diverse communities.
I fight hard on the tennis court — and even harder for you.
